Unlike the Kresge Fellowships, artists don't ap­ply for the Eminent Artist award. The recipients are cho­sen by a committee convened by the Kres­ge Foun­da­tion. Recipients of a fellowship may be con­sid­ered for an Eminent Artist award, but an Em­i­nent Artist award recipient is per­ma­nent­ly in­el­i­gi­ble to ap­ply for a fel­low­ship.
