Detroit Contemporary
487 W. Alexandrine
Detroit MI 48201
Gallery owned by Aaron Timlin, who used to run the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, run by artistic director Bri Hayes.
In late 2024, the gallery experimented with different lighting methods. House of Fancy was a candlelit exhibit. The current exhibit, A Death Cinematic, does seem to use electric lighting, but very subdued. For that one, at least at the opening, there was a lot of incense, which art patrons may or may not enjoy.
Current exhibitions
- A Death Cinematic: The Climb, the Storm, the Fall — Prometheus Weeps, Kamil Antos. Opened November 2 and slated to run to November 24.
Upcoming exhibitions
- Actual Size 2024. Slated to open December 7 and run to December 29.
Past exhibitions
This gallery has been around since before the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, but I didn't really start keeping track until until 2022.
